The Magic of Making

One year ago, in my last post here, I wrote “posting sparsely, sending love.” And I still am.

It’s been another incredibly busy year and the world continues to feel increasingly complex. I’m focused on deepening my media literacy teaching in light of this complexity. Yet outside of teaching, research, and countless service activities, there is my art practice– which I have been slowly tending. I cherish the mornings or afternoons when I can focus on making art, as they are few and far between. I’m excited to share that I’ve stumbled upon a playful approach to making my small works that serves my purpose (the process!) while also cultivating visuals that may sustain wide appeal and nurture the presence of beauty in the homes of my small audience of buyers. In the spirit of my emerging expressive folk-art style, this quote shared recently by The Visionary Art Collective sums up my dedication to art making over the past year:

“Your commitment to your art is a commitment to this world becoming a fuller, more magical place.”

It might be another whole year before I post here (who knows?! Maybe a bit longer or a tad shorter) but as you go out into the world each day, I hope you are finding the ways that you make it a fuller and more magical place too.
